Listen to the title track off Tom Waits' recently announced 'Bad As Me'

Tom Waits is pissed off. And rightfully so. He’s a mysterious musician who does things his way, on his terms, so when Amazon spoiled the secret about his new single (and hinted towards the new album) last week, Waits was understandably perturbed. He wanted people to anticipate his big reveal (which was supposed to happen today).

Well, we still got our big reveal. It just happened… differently.

First, yes, Amazon was right. We’ve got a new Tom Waits song to listen to. It’s called “Bad As Me” and you can check it out below. And yes, there’s a new Tom Waits album on its way (his first of original music in seven years), also called Bad As Me. It’s out October 25th, its tracklisting is below and you can pre-order it over at the official Tom Waits store.

But here’s the kicker: Tom Waits is pissed. He put out a video late last night, before his intended reveal, that goes from confessional to tickered with that typical Tom Waits twist.

“If you were having a birthday and I came early and I started eating your cake. Maybe I opened up all you presents, started playing with your toys… would you be okay with that? What if your wife was pregnant and she wanted to tell you she was pregnant and I called you and I said, ‘Betty is pregnant?'” he asks.

“What if I spoiled your surprise that way? Would you be okay with that? What if you had a root canal and I asked you to gargle with raw sewage? Would you be okay with that? Or would it be safe to jump rope with a live electrical wire? No. Look, I’m going to have to re-think this. The whole thing stands to be re-thought. So I’ll let you know what we come up with.”

Amazon, you’ve poked the bear! Now we wait.
