The internet is for porn, right? Right. But it’s also great for finding music or, more specifically, music lyrics.

According to Google’s search logs (info originally pulled by Digital Music News), people Google the word “lyrics” almost as much as they do “sex,” in fact “sex” has only recently leapfrogged—pun definitely intended—“lyrics” in the rankings.

This got us thinking: what else can we pull from Google Insights? First, here’s an explanation of what these numbers mean from Google themselves:

The numbers on the graph reflect the number of searches that have been done for a particular term, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time. They don’t represent absolute search volume numbers, because the data is normalised and presented on a scale from 0-100; each point on the graph is divided by the highest point or 100. When we don’t have enough data, 0 is shown. The numbers next to the search terms above the graph are summaries or totals.

So, how about Noel vs. Liam Gallagher over the last 12 months:

Or Jay-Z vs. Kanye West over the past month?

And what about Justin Bieber? Is he more searched for than Obama? What about Jesus Christ? Surely no…

Yep!

Here’s Drake vs. Lil Wayne vs. Degrassi (tracked from the release of Drake’s ;09 mixtape So Far Gone

And what about Katy Perry vs. Michael Jackson vs. Beyonce

Have your own fun with Google rankings here! You can go back as far as 2004.
