Now that Dave Mustaine and the guys in Metallica have finally kissed and made up, there’s a bit of backtalk floating around the interweb about a possible musical reunion. Talking to a Texas radio station, Mustaine says he’s “talked to Lars and James about me and David [Ellefson, Megadeth’s bassist] doing a supergroup record with Lars and James. Well, James never said ‘no,’ but it’s still kind of out there in the air. I’m gonna keep hammering on him. It’s on my bucket list.”

First, we should clarify. If this were to happen—and there’s no indication so far that it will—it wouldn’t be a supergroup so much as Metallica circa 1982 with a different bassist. While this rumour doesn’t yet have legs to stand on, any old school Metallica fan should be excited by the prospect. Megadave Mustaine reportedly wrote a bunch of Metallica’s old riffs (for Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Lightning) but didn’t perform on either album after a dispute with Metallica’s bassist at the time granted him a one way ticket out of the band.

Of course there’s always the chance that this is just a publicity stunt. Megadeth’s new album TH1RT3EN will be out in November. [via Blabbermouth]
