Long-time gay rights advocate, singer Cyndi Lauper, is set to open a 30-bed housing facility for New York’s homeless LGBT youth aged 18-24.

On September 1, The True Colors Residence will open its doors at West 154th St. in Harlem. Conceived by the singer, her manager and a local non-profit focused on providing housing for homeless families and the elderly West End Intergenerational Residence), the facility is, according to Rolling Stone, the first permanent one of its kind in the city.

The 30 studio apartments are in a new building that is energy-efficient, with indoor and outdoor community space. Residents will pay rent based on income and will job placement assistance. [via Rolling Stone].
