Cheap Trick has cancelled an upcoming show in Vancouver after learning the stage would be built by Groupe Berge, the company who built the stage that collapsed at last month’s Ottawa Blues Fest.

A statement on the band’s website claims that “all potential alternatives have been explored by the band and promoter and were exhausted, leaving Cheap Trick with no other option than to cancel their September 1st engagement at the PNE,” adding  that “unless current investigation(s) prove otherwise, the band will not, as a matter of principle, but more importantly, as a matter of safety, appear on a Berger stage in the future.”

The MBNA collapsed during Cheap Trick’s set at Ottawa BluesFest last month when a violent windstorm (145 km/h) swept through the grounds. Nobody in the band was hurt, but 3 people were rushed to hospital because of the collapse.
