To say that Adam Ant likes Bob Geldof as much as the Boomtown Rats like Mondays would be a pretty strong understatement. Talking to Uncut magazine, the “Stand and Deliver” singer went off in 1985’s Live Aid benefit concert, effectively blaming it for killing rock and roll, empowering hippies and making Bono into a millionaire (billionaire?).

“Doing that show was the biggest fucking mistake in the world. Knighthoods were made, Bono got it made, and it was a waste of fucking time. It was the end of rock ‘n’ roll, now hippies run the world, like fucking  Glastonbury… I hate hippies.”

It’s estimated that close to £150 million has been raised as a direct result of the concert. But yeah, Bono.

Ant, who after 30 active years in the business still dresses like a techno-pirate, was given a one song set at the benefit’s London date. [via Sky News]
