At the end of each week, #Top40Tweets lists a cross-section of artists on the current pop charts and puts their tweets on display (along with their current chart number) for your enjoyment/scrutiny. This week, just to change things up a bit, we’re looking at 5 artists who were recently nominated for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Tyler, the Creator – Yonkers (Video Of The Year Nominee)

You talk a lot of shit, Tyler. It’s time to put up, or shut up. Do as you were trained…AND KILL THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER.

Odds of Winning: 2:1. (Favourite: Adele – Rolling In The Deep)

I think Tyler has a good chance of taking home a spaceman on August 28th, but I think it’ll be for another category – Best New Artist. I’m just glad this whole VMA angle has finally allowed me to include Tyler in my weekly tweets roundup. This dude is probably one of the most profound celebrity presences on twitter. He’s extremely difficult to follow, because he seems to tweet as often as he breathes, but he’s always a good bet for filling your e-shock quotient for the day. Golf Wang.

Katy Perry – Firework (Video Of The Year Nominee)

Galatic Explorer’s Log, Transmission Intercepted from 2125 A.D.:
Cave paintings found in the early human settlement of what primitives called “Kalgahry,” depicting the folkloric demon NegaBieber. NegaBieber was much feared by natives, known for his high-pitched wail and hypnotic hair-flips which would initiate mind control over the village’s young maidens.

Odds of Winning: 3:1. (Favourite: Adele – Rolling In The Deep)

I think Katy’s “Firework” is punching above its weight in this category — “Rolling In The Deep” and “Yonkers” are my picks. She might end up taking home a spaceman for Best Pop Video, thanks to her star-studded opus “Last Friday Night.” Katy’s no stranger to taking home spacemen, though. Get it? That song “E.T.” is about boning aliens, right? Right? Hehehehehheheheheh. …God, I’m sorry.

Justin Bieber – U Smile (Best Male Video Nominee)

If you need more evidence that Justin Bieber is the raddest kid in the universe, bounce on over to TMZ, and get the scoop on Justin & Selena’s IRL Wedding Crashers experience.

Odds of Winning: 1:10 (Favourite: Justin Bieber – U Smile)

Last year, Justin was nominated for a BET Award (Best New Artist) and this year he won a Country Music Award (Collaborative Video Of the Year). This is a sure thing. Any award that is open to public voting always goes to Bieber.

Kreayshawn – Gucci Gucci (Best New Artist Nominee)

Kreayshawn, eh? I get it, she’s like Dev, but somehow even more annoying.

Odds of Winning: 10:1. (Favourite: Tyler, the Creator)

Fun fact: Kreayshawn directed some early Lil B music videos, and now she’s directing the first video from the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album. Apparently all the major labels’ survival strategy is to put a bunch of 20 year old weirdos in charge of everything (see: Odd Future, Lil B, Kreayshawn).

Pitbull feat. Ne-Yo, Nayer, and Afrojack – Give Me Everything (Pop Video Of The Year Nominee)

Dutch DJ Afrojack seems like a nice chap.

Hoo-boy, talk about a language barrier. Let’s run this through Babelfish.

Hmm.

Odds of Winning: 2:1. (Favourite: Katy Perry – Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.))

Afrojack is fairly new to the game, but his latest production credits (“Give Me Everything,” “Run The World (Girls),” “Take Over Control”) bode well for the future. You heard it here first, Afrojack is going to be the producer of the year in 2012.
