Tom Morello unveiled a new project yesterday, but it was at the San Diego Comic Convention, so no, it wasn’t another new band: he announced the release of his first graphic novel, Orchid, set to be in stores on October 12.

Orchid is the first of a twelve-part series that was penned by Morello; the cover is by influential street artist Shepard Fairey, with interior art from Scott Hepburn. Morello has also written a score for the series, with each song distributed as a free, downloadable track with the purchase of each issue.

The story is said to be “part Suicide Girl, and part Joan of Arc,” a futuristic fantasy that tells the tale of a 16-year-old street prostitute who “learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her.” You know what? That sounds kind of awesome. [via the Nightwatchman website]
