The Drums release new single ‘Money’
by Alicia Condarcuri
July 13, 2011
In the Drums new single, “Money,” Johnathon Pierce’s voice sounds a little different than on the band’s 2009 debut. It’s a little less sweet, a little harsher, possibly because their fame hasn’t brought much fortune? “I want to buy you something/But I don’t have any money,” he repeats in the catchy falsetto chorus. Maybe it’s a subtle comment on the state of the recording industry, or a way of telling people to buy The Drums new record Portamento, or both. Portamento drops on September 12 in the UK (a U.S. date will be announced at a later date), but until then you can listen to the recession surf-rock track for free below.
