In case you weren’t already aware, James Franco recently added another job to his 25295285 million page resume, and has launched a musical endeavour with Kalup Linzy just because he can. Thus, it’s time to take a look at some of the best, brightest, and absolute worst of the actor-turned-musician community, because if we’ve learned anything about Hollywood’s elite, it’s that sometimes they make either wonderful or terrible decisions. No in-betweens.

Best

5. Juliette Lewis

One of our favourite ’90s cinematic darlings became badass personified after she embraced her weird-ass self and formed Juliette and The Licks and later The New Romantics. Sure, she can still act, but frontwoman-wise, she’s unstoppable.

4. Zooey Deschanel

She may be all bangs-and-doe-eyes, but sold out shows and critical acclaim can testify to the unbridled success that is She & Him. Our only suggestion? Despite the temptation to do so, it may be time to stop singing in films.

3. Drake

Oh, you may be all caught up in his SBTRKT appearance and how he may or may not be dating Nicki Minaj, but it’s absolutely crucial that you remember this:

Boom.

2. Steve Martin

Novelty album or not, the man can rip on a banjo. And if you’ve been lucky enough to treat yourself to the musical stylings of one of the century’s greatest funnymen, you’ve learned that those who dismiss Steve Martin can dismiss themselves out of your life.

1. William Shatner

It’s important that you realize by no means did we say “critically praised” while mentioning “best” and/or “brightest,” but in case you’ve yet to be swayed by the prowess of “The Shat-Man,” gaze upon these little gems:

Worst

5. Lindsay Lohan

Once upon a time we all reveled at the potential of Lilo, leaving most of us young 20-somethings envious of her comedic timing and “Phoebe-with-a-cold”-esque voice. Then the music happened. And everything else is history.

4. Paris Hilton

Sure, she’s by no means an actress, but it was our duty to include her on this list because regardless of what you would like to have us believe, you probably watched all 68 seasons of The Simple Life and burned this song onto a “summer playlist” of sorts (only that one playlist and only that one time). Never forget.

3. Eddie Murphy

As much as we love him for breathing life back into the then-flailing SNL, by no means should he have dabbled in music unless it was part of a Digital Short before Digital Shorts existed. Though you’re more than welcome to name a new Facebook album after the title if you haven’t already.

2. Bruce Willis

Though he’s barely ever had a truly terrible acting stint (say what you will about those million action movies you’ve never seen, they were amazing), Bruce Willis ventured into the wide world of music in the ’80s, seemingly paying tribute to a mix between Bruce Springsteen and that guy at the karaoke bar who only knows the words to Billy Joel songs. Just respecting himself.

1. Mr. T

You may pity the fool who disrespects their mother, but by no way on earth should this song have been commissioned or supported by anyone but a grade one teacher watching his or her student give their best shot at an elementary school talent show.
