Bands reunite as easily as they disappeared these days (thanks, internet!), and Gainsville, FL punk institution Hot Water Music are among the latest to cause some excitement over doing so. It started as live shows here and there, but next month, they’ll release their first new music in seven years in the form of a seven-inch single. Today, they premiered the first song “The Fire, The Steel, The Tread” via the Huffington Post, and you can listen to it below.

The Chuck Ragan half of the dual-vocal group handles this one, and it’s a roots-tinged rocker that sounds like, if stripped down, it could easily have appeared on one of his solo albums, heavy on melody but punctuated with some darker driving riffs. The initial new material was recorded in stages without all four members being in the same studio at the same time, but Ragan says in a press release that the future holds full-band sessions, too. “It’s extremely exciting to us to see what we accomplish in the same room soon after seeing what we were able to do over the lines.”
