For their sophomore album, Florence and the Machine are once again teaming up with producer Paul Epworth who has also recently worked on Adele’s 21 and Friendly Fires’ Pala. So far it has, according to Epworth, resulted in a much heavier sound than the band’s 2009 debut.

“It’s going to be more stripped down, but it’s heavy, rhymically,” the producer said. “It’s a much heavier record than the first album. It’s a lot less indie and lot more soulful.”

Welch and her band are currently recording the as-yet-untitled album at London’s Abbey Road Studios and have a total of 16 songs thus far. Epworth claims the album will be finished by “the end of July.”

Recently Welch provided a cover of Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” for the upcoming tribute album entitled Rave On Buddy Holly that’s set for release on June 28 via Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group. [6Music]
