SPIN magazine has an exclusive stream of the new Against Me! single up today; “Russian Spies” will be released on June 14 via Sabot Productions as well as the band’s own newly formed label Total Treble Music, which will serve as the home for all future Against Me! recordings. It will be backed with “Occult Enemies.”

Singer/songwriter Tom Gabel recently spoke with AUX about the band’s split from Sire Records. The band also briefly returned to their old stomping grounds Fat Wreck Chords as well to release Total Clarity, a collection of demos and outtakes from their 2005 album Searching For A Former Clarity.

“Russian Spies” also marks the recorded debut of new drummer Jay Weinberg (who, yep, is the son of that famous drumming Weinberg, Max of the E Street band). It’s a straightforward, minimal and overdriven power-punk song that Gabel tells SPIN is about “existential dread, narcotic submarines, oil spills, and the now almost distant memory of a red threat.” It was one of the last tracks recorded in the famous, now-closed Smart Studios in Madison, WI, with producer Butch Vig. The track can be heard (and more can be read about it) over here.
