Since January of last year, The Killers have been on hiatus after releasing three albums and touring non-stop for six years, only performing one-off shows for the likes of President Obama and senior US Senator Harry Reid. Now it appears the Las Vegas quartet have had their rest and will begin working on new material this month.

Speaking with XFM, drummer Ronnie Vannucci, who also has a solo album coming out called Big Talk in July, said the group has “piles of songs” to work with so far and a date marked on the calendar to get down to business.

“Tuesday I think we start doing some writing again,” he said. “We have piles of songs we want to show each other. We’re going to get back in that room and start working.”

The band’s last album, their third entitled Day & Age, was released in 2008. Back in November the band put out a Christmas song called “Boots” with all proceeds going to AIDS charities.
