Mogwai are looking to keep the buzz surrounding their latest record Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (their seventh studio album and Sub Pop debut) rolling by releasing a new EP in the fall.

“It’s finished. There are some songs that we did at the same time as the album that we didn’t really feel fitted with the rest of the record,” guitarist Stuart Braithwaite tells AUX. “We just need to get the sleeve and stuff and bring it out in autumn.”

“We’re not 100 per cent, but I think we’re going to call it Earth Division EP,” he continues. “That’s the idea at the moment.”

Forming in the mid-’90s and often considered highly influential for other bands toying with instrumental rock music, the Scottish quintet are, according to Braithwaite, not quite finished making music as the band is still amazed at the amount of fan support they’ve received over the years.

“I wouldn’t see there any reason why we wouldn’t keep making records and touring unless there is popular demand for us to stop, which doesn’t seem to be the case,” he says. “I’m very surprised, especially with this record. Not that I don’t think it’s a good album because I’m really proud of it, but people lose interest in a lot of bands when they make two or three records never mind seven so it’s been a really pleasant surprise how into it people are.”
