Listen to a Diamond Rings remix of Austra's "Lose It"

Yeah yeah, we know, who cares about remixes (usually), right? Here’s one that’s totally good: Toronto’s Diamond Rings has remixed Toronto’s Austra to result in an explosive unintentional collaboration between the two superbuzz electro/pop artists. It’s got the big ol’ shameless ’80s-pop Diamond Rings beat and Katie Stelmanis’ spine-tingling voice. And more. But those are all you need.

The remix is the second installment of Diamond Rings’ Rainbow Remix project (the first was Miracle Fortress’ “Raw Spectacle“), a celebration of some of the great music being released by his peers and of his debut album Special Affections’ big-deal re-release through Astralwerks. One remix will be released every Tuesday until June 21, and as he says on his website, “the artwork for each remix will represent a different colour of the Diamond Rings rainbow and when compiled together they’ll make a pretty cool sonic artifact for the digital age.”

Diamond Rings (also known as John O’Regan from Matters, once know as the D’Urbervilles…phewf) had the following to say about his Austra remix:

“Without the advice and encouragement of today’s featured Remix Rainbow artist it’s safe to say that Diamond Rings may never have made it out of my own bedroom. A few years ago I had just moved to Toronto with little more than a handful of chord progressions and about as many friends to boot. Fortunately for me, Katie Stelmanis was one of them! Katie not only helped me find a musical community here in the city but also gave me the confidence to learn how to make electronic music by myself.”
