Janelle Monae’s success has skyrocketed in the last year, both critically and commercially, with a standout performance at the Grammys and her song “Tightrope” being featured in a string of Chevrolet commercials, but as Monae tells AUX Weekly, if her success isn’t helping others, if it’s not opening doors, then “none of it’s worth it.”
The pompadoured singer goes on to say that she doesn’t set out to make money, that making “ends meet happens,” but that it’s her goal to be an imaginative, creative artist whose success can hopefully open doors for other artists.
