The Awl has uncovered a gem of a Youtube clip: a short, behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Pharcyde’s classic 1995 video “Drop.”

Directed by Spike Jonze in the era when Spike Jonze was making some of the best, most groundbreaking and creative music videos, “Drop” was filmed entirely backwards—from the walking to the rapping along to an inverse track. It’s a technique that has most recently been adopted by Shad for his “Rose Garden” video (and most famously by Coldplay).
