Who: Teen Daze
From: Vancouver, BC
Playing: March 17 at The Karma Lounge, March 19 at Soho Lounge

Mysterious-in-so-much-as-he-won’t-disclose-his-real-name but not-mysterious-enough-to-not-appear-in-photos, Teen Daze had only been making his brand hazy bedroom pop at home on his laptop for about a year when the mythical blog buzz came around. He’s since been featured numerous times on Pitchfork’s Forkcast, played the CMJ festival, and amassed a loyal group of domestic listeners from his frequent on CBC Radio 3. Not bad for a project that started as a way to record funny songs for his friends. We find out how Teen Daze (who plays tonight at 9:15 p.m. at the Karma Lounge) is going to spend his time in Austin.

1. AUX: What is your SXSW survival plan?

Teen Daze: Try to eat as many vegetables as possible; make sure to drink as much water as beer; bring ear plugs; see Gobble Gobble as often as possible.

2. Who or what are you most looking forward to seeing?

I’m most excited to see friends that will be playing down there, like Gobble Gobble, Braids, Baths, Houses, MillionYoung and Blackbird Blackbird. As well, I really want to see Candy Claws, Twin Shadow, James Blake and Memoryhouse.

3. If you’ve been to SXSW before, tell us your most memorable moment. If you haven’t, what is the most intriguing thing about it to you?

I haven’t been before actually! I’m most intrigued at the sheer amount of music that happens. I did CMJ in NYC this year, and people say that CMJ is a lot more spread out than SXSW, which I’m excited about. Even CMJ felt crazy to me, how I could just roll out of bed at noon and walk to a venue to see a show.

4. Out of the billion bands playing at SXSW, why should people come see your show?

My SXSW set is a huge dance party; my number one goal is starting a party no matter what time of day, or what the venue is like. I’m going to spread some serious joy around Austin!

6. Start a juicy SXSW rumour (i.e. a secret show, keynote speaker, band drama, etc.).

I heard Crucifictorious will be playing. That’s one for the Friday Night Lights fans (clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose).
