Today marks the release of Transistor Sister, the new album from Sackville, NB’s Shotgun Jimmie, a satisfying slice of smart, so-called slacker-rock that features members of Ladyhawk (Ryan Peters) and Do Make Say Think (Jay Baird) as his backing band. It isn’t too early to call it as one of our favourites of the year already.

The man otherwise known as Jim Kilpatrick is in the midst of an extensive Canadian tour, and tells AUX from the road that recording the album—his first in a proper studio and not at home—was full of new and rewarding experiences. “Honestly it was a dream come true. I was extremely excited to be recording with two of my favourite musicians, and the pro studio added this feeling that we could try anything we wanted.”

A great companion to the new record is Jimmie’s new tour blog, full of charming quips from his travels. “I’m stoked to have the new website. The Internet changed music,” he says. More content will be added his site as the tour continues, and he only hopes people find their way to there as opposed to the weirdo hijacked Shotgun Jimmie URL, shamefully selling you style and music business advice.

Though a road warrior, Jimmie says it’s nice to have a rural reprieve when he does take a break from the road. “New Brunswick is a beautiful place to live. It’s nice to come home from the road and have a little break from the music business.”

Full Shotgun Jimmie tour dates can be found here; it’d be wise to find the one in your hood and pick up an album at a show, otherwise, it can be purchased from You’ve Changed records. The first single, “Late Last Year,” can be heard below.
