Since 1991’s Ten, Pearl Jam has remained one of the few early ’90s alternative rock bands that’s managed to keep its members together, fight the man and still release albums.  And according to bassist Jeff Ament, the band will reconvene this spring to start work on a new record that’s expected to come out later this year.

“We did a whole bunch of demos and everybody’s got a disc of 25 [songs] right now,” Ament told Billboard. “April will be the time where we get together and learn to play all these demos and figure out which 12 to 15 of them float to the top. Hopefully we can get something done this year.

“There’s been so much focus on the past that I think all of us are really excited to make a new record,” he added. “And have something to look forward to because we’ve been digging in the boxes in our basement a lot the last year or so.”

Along with a new album, a Cameron Crowe-directed documentary is also set to come out this year as well as a book celebrating their 20th anniversary. Their last record, Backspacer, was released in 2009.
