Lars Ulrich is a lot of things. He’s a drummer, a former aspiring tennis player and—perhaps most importantly for Metallica fans—kind of an asshole. Here’s another thing to add to his resumé: actor. No, really.

Blabbermouth confirmed today that Ulrich will star as Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens in HBO’s upcoming Hemingway and Gellhorn. The news comes as a surprise to anyone who saw Ulrich’s surprisingly unconvincing portrayal of, uh, himself, in last year’s Get Him to the Greek.

Hemingway and Gellhorn also stars Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman and tells the story of writer Ernest Hemingway’s tumultuous relationship with World War II correspondent Martha Gellhorn. In short, Lars Ulrich is starring in a movie about a tragic break-up; somewhere Metallica fans are laughing.

Thanks to RollingStone.com for the header, a snap taken on the made-for-TV movie’s set.
