The only solution to CMW’s inclement weather was to seek shelter, and since Sonic Boom was the go-to for in-store appearances, we seized the day and caught up with a few of the bands performing that afternoon. Here are the results of our impromptu Q&A sessions:

Humans – Vancouver, BC

Favourite place to eat?

Peter Ricq: Mimi Ashi’s House

What bands are you most excited to see?

PR: I wanted to see Young Empires, but they played yesterday. Now I’m really sad.

So what shows are you heading to tonight?

Robbie Slade: Sun Wizard’s playing with us tonight, and they’re from Vancouver.

PR: I want to see Winter Gloves play tonight.

RS: Janet Jackson! Though I would like to say to Toronto that I think it’s sad that you’re playing music on the Lord’s Day, and you have fallen to the devil.

What do you like best about Toronto crowds?

PR: Everything’s been so good aside from our baggage. In the airport, all of our suitcases are marked fragile, and you hear people just throwing it and they do that with every fragile [thing].

RS: When we played here at Press Room, the Toronto crowd threw down so hard. They broke tables and stuff.

What do you expect from CMW?

PR: I’d like some big gigs to come out of it.

RS: Book some gigs that make the cost of doing it worthwhile.

Famous last words?

PR: Alleluia… Can I have another beer?

Bombay Bicycle Club – London, UK

Favourite place to eat?

Jack Steadman: We went to The Keg last night. Outside The Keg, there’s a sign saying Bombay Bicycle Club. It’s really weird.

What bands are you most excited to see?

JS: I’d like to see J. Mascis who’s playing straight after us.

We’re looking forward to seeing the Bombay Motorcycle Club, apparently they’re playing. On of one of the listings, they got our name wrong. Or maybe it’s just another band. We hope they won’t be so stupid to get our name wrong. But we’re going to check them out. It is a coincidence, though, that they’re playing the same time as us at the same place.

What do you like best about Toronto crowds?

Ed Nash: Our manager’s from Toronto, and we’ve come to his home finally.

JS: We’re finding out things about him that finally make sense now that we’re here. It all makes sense now. It’s great. We love Canada.

What would you change about Toronto?

JS: I would not change the veal sandwiches from California Sandwiches.

EN: Everyone’s too friendly, it doesn’t feel like London.

JS: We wouldn’t change a single thing. Actually, we’d develop that beautiful [space] by the lake. That place needs to be developed, the shore. There’s nothing there! That could turn into something beautiful. We’re actually thinking if we get bored of this, we might become developers.

Famous last words?

JS: Shang-a-lang.

Pkew Pkew Pkew (Gunshots) – Toronto, ON

Favourite place to eat?

Cam Tom III: Hurricane’s. Everything [there] is loveably mediocre

What bands are you most excited to see?

CT: oOohh Baby Gimme Mores and Tiny Danza.

What do you like best about Toronto crowds?

CT: When they clap and sing with us. Sometimes.

What would you change about Toronto?

CT: More fun with the bands who are playing, and less competition. More friendliness.

Famous last words?

CT: Boner. Goof, bozo, jabroni.
