In a recent interview with Moviefone, director Cameron Crowe satisfies the annoying Almost Famous diehards (guilty) as he talks about the use of music in his films, including the “Tiny Dancer” scene from the semi-autobiographical flick.

Crowe divulges that he “still make[s] a mix CD every month, as a diary for how that month felt.” He also shares some inside scoop about the classic boombox scene from Say Anything, saying that the film (and heart) stealing “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel was added after the fact—John Cusack was actually playing a Fishbone song cassette.

But, ultimately, they needed something a little sweeter. “He seemed like a crazed Fishbone fan who just happened to be outside her window.”
