Ever since Gorillaz released their last album The Fall, which was created using an iPad, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the next artist to use Apple’s latest/greatest tool to record an album. That day has now come and the latest person to embrace this merger of music and technology is Icelandic songstress Bjork.

Apparently Bjork’s forthcoming album Biophilla, her seventh LP, was “partially recorded” on an iPad and will be released as a series of apps. Describing the album as “multi-media project encompassing music, apps, internet, installations and live shows,” the singer/songwriter will preview the material this summer during a three week residency at Manchester’s Campfield Market Hall.

Apparently the upcoming gigs will include “a bespoke digitally-controlled pipe organ; a 30 foot pendulum that harnesses the earth’s gravitational pull to create musical patterns– creating a unique bridge between the ancient and the modern; a bespoke gamelan-celeste hybrid; and a one-off extraordinary pin barrel harp.”

No release date has been set for Biophilla, however it is expected to come out sometime later this year along with her collaborative album with Syrian musician Omar Souleyman. [CofS]
