A feminist icon in her own right, Beth Ditto has cited the likes of Mama Cass and Miss Piggy as her own feminist heroes as well as Ethel Merman, Aretha Franklin and Whoopi Goldberg.

Revealing that her interest in feminism began with Gloria Steinem at age 11, she claims she grew to “worship” the Mamas and the Papas frontwoman, whom she admired for being “really fat” and not “losing weight,” something she believed was “really inspiring.”

As for Kermit’s better half? The Gossip frontwoman praises the character for being an “incredible feminist icon” (despite her abusive relationship with Kermit), and in the days of being called Miss Piggy by classmates, it “never dawned on [her] that it was an insult until people pointed it out.” Why? Because “Miss Piggy rules.” [via Spinner]
