At the end of each week, #Top40Tweets lists a cross-section of artists on the current pop charts and puts their tweets on display (along with their current chart number) for your enjoyment/scrutiny. This week, we look at 5 artists on the Billboard Hot 100.

#48: Wiz Khalifa – Roll Up

Take note, DJs of the blogosphere:  a Wiz Khalifa/Peaches & Herb mash-up would be dynamite. You heard it here first, Internet.

Worth Following?: Yes. The man knows his way around a weed pun. Black & Yellow might be pretty important to Wiz, but where his Twitter account is concerned, the only colours on this guy’s mind are Green & Green.

#82: David Guetta – Who’s That Chick?

Oh, D-Guetta. You’re so delightfully Euro.

Worth Following?: No. Unless you’ve got a thing for ESL, Guetta’s Twitter isn’t too worthwhile. Though I would like to be a fly on the wall for the conversation between Guetta and Arnold. Maybe they talked about how much they both love Lenny Kravitz.

#16: Lil Wayne – 6 foot 7

Without context, this tweet is beautiful. But it would be bad reporting if I didn’t inform you that Weezy is talking about seeing Stevie sitting courtside at the recent NBA All Star Game.

Worth Following?: A big no. I only just realized that this isn’t even the real Lil Wayne twitter account. The real Wayne is verified here. This impostor still has almost 100,000 followers, and this tweet was re-tweeted over 100 times. It just goes to show you that you need to be cognizant of Twitter-trickery when dealing with celebrity tweets. Look for the blue checkmark, people. And be safe out there.

#1: Lady Gaga – Born This Way

But what if you’re sitting on the Destiny Subway, and someone with really bad B.O. gets on the train? Ugh, I hate that. And sometimes the driver will be driving & texting at the same time. Is that what we pay these Destiny Subway Employees 70 grand a year for? NO!  Just take me to my dream, already. #destinysubwayfail

Worth Following?: No. Unless you’re a Little Monster, there’s nothing here for you. Gaga is too smart to say anything too foolish, and she’s too full of shit to say anything legitimately interesting.

#59: Kanye West – All of the Lights

BAD KANYE. BAD. STOP THAT. This tweet is just so ignorant that I feel like I have to talk to Kanye like I would talk to a mangy stray dog. Now I kind of want to rub his nose in it. LOOK WHAT YOU DID. BAD!

Worth Following?: I can see how this Tweet might be a deal-breaker for a lot of followers. In my opinion, this is the first real misstep in Kanye’s career trajectory since the Taylor Swift fiasco. It’s kind of crazy how important an artist’s Twitter account is in today’s consumer culture, and there’s no better example of how dicey things can get for a publicist than this tweet right here. #Top40Tweets has been so serious lately. Last week, we talked about Justin Bieber’s views on abortion. This week, Kanye’s views on abortion. IF THERE ARE ANY MORE TWEETS ABOUT ABORTION NEXT WEEK, I’M KIND OF GOING TO FREAK OUT. Stay tuned!
