Is Dr. Dre secretly behind the Burning Man festival?

Toronto’s NOW magazine has given us a great new nugget for internet conspiracy theorizing: did Dr. Dre start the free-love free-economy super-hippie Burning Man festival?

The Tumblr account NOW has discovered thinks so. From the blog:

“Since 1995 he has paid the permit fees to the Nevada Bureau of Land Management and thus he collects the money from ticket sales sans some costs that go with the organization of the event itself. To avoid having to deal with scrutiny or show his participation in this event Dr.Dre does all burning man related business under a limited liability corporation called Black Rock City, LLC.”

Apparently this all happened in 1995 while Dre was out scouting some desert locations for what would become the “California Love” video. Okay, well. Sure. Here is more information on the author of the blog:

“About: just a fellow burner who found out the truth about who is making money off ticket sales to Burning Man, spread the word all burners should know!”

Let’s file this one under too good to be true and too good not to be true.
