Every week, High Fives asks five bands fives questions over five days. This week, we’re putting a cap on the New Year by talking trends for 2011.

The first time I saw Baptized in Blood was at a poorly-attended, strangely miss-matched show in the dead in the winter at Lee’s Palace a few years back. Between some pop-punk and ska bands, these dudes just decimated the few kids in the room, and then turned out to be the nicest guys ever. When they got signed to Roadrunner, it was like some wonderful karmic blessing on their thrash-y hardcore/metal hybrid. And now they’re managed by Dave Mustaine, which is equally impressive and mind-blowingly bad-ass. In October of last year, they released their second full-length, and first for Roadrunner, and have been touring the world pretty endlessly every since. The band just wrapped up a cross-Canada tour and is finishing their way around North America, fighting the Snowdisasterword at every turn.

Are there any trends from 2010 you already see dying in 2011?

Well, auto-tune is dead now, right? I’m not sure if it will ever die, but I’m getting a little tired of every band trying to sound like Meshuggah. It’s cool, you can do polyrhythms, I get it, time for something new.

What do you expect to be the biggest flash-in-the-pan musical trend of 2011?

Um, the year is still pretty young, but I’d have to say this wave of metal mixed with club/dance music is pretty annoying. I really hope that won’t last long.

If you could become the legendary creator of new musical genre this year, what would it be?

How about cum-core!?  Tunes so sweet they sonically give you an orgasm when you hear them! I wouldn’t mind inventing that.

Are there any records you’re particularly excited about this year?

I’ve been excited about it for a few years, but I’d LOVE to hear a new Necrophagist album! Long overdue!

Are there any records you’re just fucking dreading this year?

I think there’s a new Stereos album out. I’m avoiding that like the plague! And anything else Ke$ha is gonna crap out!
