DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEK: Katie Moore's "Montebello"
by Jessica Lewis
February 1, 2011
Montreal native Katie Moore’s sophomore album, Montebello—the follow-up to her acclaimed debut, 2007’s Only Thing Worse—comes out today. This time around, Moore’s beautiful folk and country-tinged tunes include a wide roster of guest musicians, including Warren Spicer and Mathe Woodley of Plants and Animals, Socalled, Chilly Gonzales, Joe Grass, Dave Payant of Silver Mt. Zion, and Mike O’Brien. The release is also a big pat on the back for Moore as was able to raise enough funds to release it on her own label imprint, Purple Cat Records.
The title track is a gorgeously layered four minutes of sunshine, as Moore’s voice soothingly drifts between a banjo, keyboards and drums. It’s one of those songs that will fill you up with warmth and let you float along, and we all know us Canadians need it while this winter keeps going.
Moore has two concerts in Quebec this week and will be on tour in Ontario in March.
