Watch Best Coast perform "Boyfriend" on Fallon

After listening to their debut LP, Crazy For You – undeniably one of the most popular ‘indie’ albums of 2010 – there’s an element of surprise when seeing lead vocalist Bethany Consentino and co. perform live as they always deliver a heavier, early-’90s alt rock-influenced noise set as opposed to the clean, polished sound on the album. A clear example of this is the performance below of “Boyfriend” on Jimmy Fallon from last night.

Making their network TV debut, Best Coast put on a one-song tutorial of how rock and roll should be played. No flailing about or guitar smashing was necessary, just the three musicians at one with their instruments and Consentino pouring her heart out about the one who she’d like to love her.
