Often-underrated indie rockers Nada Surf have released a new video for their excellent cover of Depeche Mode’s 1990 hit “Enjoy the Silence.” The song’s melancholy is made optimistic with the band’s warm harmonies, and the clip, filmed and directed by Jan-Ole Gerster, is comprised of footage from last summer’s European tour. It peaks just after the song’s bridge with a joyous little moment of live footage that sees the clearly ecstatic crowd on stage with the band.

The Brooklyn trio, though not always grabbing headlines, is indeed alive and thriving, most recently releasing the covers album from which this excellent track was taken, last year’s If I Had A Hi-Fi. It also features covers of songs by Kate Bush, Spoon, and Moody Blues.

This particular Depeche Mode song is much-covered, and this one ranks along the Matthew Good Band’s cover, from their rare 1998 EP Lo-Fi B-Sides, as one of our favourites. Watch Nada Surf’s version below.
