Throughout Oasis’ 18-year history, Noel Gallagher was the principle songwriter and often acted as frontman, despite his younger brother Liam taking over most of the vocal duties. As far as songwriting went, Gallagher senior was quite proficient and able to come up with words to fit around the band’s heavily Beatles-influenced melodies. He quit the band in 2009 and now the younger Gallagher has been forced to pick up a pen in hopes of achieving the same sort of success with his new project, Beady Eye.

The songs have been written, recorded, and are set to come out on the band’s debut Different Gear, Still Speeding on March 1, however Gallagher has revealed he has no idea what any of the songs mean.

“I don’t know what any of my tunes are about, they’re just out there,” he said in an interview for the March edition of Mojo Magazine. “I’m not good with words. I just say the first thing that comes into my head.”

One of the new album’s tracks is called “Wigwam,” which is about “Fuck knows, I haven’t got a clue,” according to Gallagher. “That’s words, that’s all, that I think sort of go together. There’s a bit of something… people might see it as being a bit of beating up someone on the booze a bit. But it’s nothing to do with a wigwam. Or as some Japanese girl said the other day ‘what is it about, a man with a wig?’ I don’t know.” [Sydney Morning Herald]
