Every Friday #Top40Tweets lists a cross-section of artists on the current pop charts and puts their tweets on display (along with their current chart number) for your enjoyment/scrutiny. This week, we look at 10 artists on the American Top 40 Countdown.

#1: Nelly – Just A Dream

Okay, so get this: when Nelly is bored, he tweets trivia questions for his followers. And the winner gets $100?? LET’S GET IT!

Okay, this is way too easy. He might as well be burning the hundred dollars.

And he does this like 4-5 times in a row. What a weird hobby. Ah, celebrity.

Worth Following?: I guess so, you know, if you enjoy making an easy hundo. No one can say that Nelly doesn’t give back. He’s pioneering a new genre called cash-hop, it’s a fusion of Cash Cab and hip-hop.

#33: Jason DeRulo – What If

No, really. He does it a lot.

Worth Following?: Yes. He’s been writing songs for artists like Diddy, Sean Kingston and Lil’ Mama since he was sixteen, so the guy is clearly pretty talented. Plus, you can’t really rag on a dude who’s just blending the rich tradition of self-aggrandizing in hip hop with the gratuitous sloppy vocal runs of classic R&B.

#6: P!nk – Raise Your Glass

Watch for Pink’s new album, The Moon Landing Never Happened, in stores never. Leave the conspiracy theories to the professionals, popstar. AM I RIGHT GUYS?

Worth Following?: Yes, absolutely. Officially the sassiest singer with a colour in her name since Blu Cantrell, Pink is a smart lady. It’s pretty badass when she mouths off about anything topical or controversial.

#30: Sean Kingston – Letting Go (Dutty Love) Feat. Nicki Minaj

As if that wouldn’t be an international news story. It would definitely cause Twitter to explode.

Worth Following?: Sean Kingston knows what he’s doing. He knows that every time you tweet about Justin Bieber you gain thousands of followers, no matter who you are. The same way that every time a blog mentions JB, it gets tons of hits. See what I’m doing here? That said, there’s nothing groundbreaking happening on his twitter account. Steer clear unless you’re a mega-fan of the huggable smiling teddy bear that is Sean Kingston.

#11: Katy Perry – Firework

Coco’s teenage dream come true.

Worth Following?: Yes. Haters gon’ hate, but Katy Perry has the best sense of humour of any of the Top 40 divas. Anything involvig Katy Perry, Conan, and jeggings (hands down, the garment of 2010) is ok by me. See below.
