“And on the 14th day of Christmas . . . ” Not really. But in what could be the coolest thing since record companies started putting out Advent calendars, The New York Times Magazine has released “14 Actors Acting: A Video Gallery of Classic Screen Types”.

In it, the likes of James Franco, Javier Bardem, Vincent Cassel, Natalie Portman and Matt Damon take on Old Hollywood techniques, acting only through facial and physical expressions while music by Owen Pallett sets the tone for what each scene’s supposed to represent.

Directed by Solve Sundsbo, it goes to show that a soundtrack really does tell a story – as well as the fact that despite what tabloids and box office remakes would have us believe, Hollywood still boasts some incredible talent.

Now when’s Owen going to compose a film score already?
