Every week, High Fives asks five bands five themed questions over five days. This week, we’re all caught up in the release of the Bruce Springsteen documentary, The Promise, and talkin’ music docs in anticipation.

Like the most melodic moments from the early Sonic Youth catalogue, No Joy’s full-length debut, Ghost Blonde (out yesterday on Mexican Summer, and mixed by Sune Rose-Wagner from the Raveonettes) is full of carefully disguised pop gems, great hooks buried in layers of guitar noise and reverb-drenched vocals. Formed by Montreal scene stalwarts Laura Lloyd and Jasmine White-Glutz when the latter moved to L.A., No Joy began with the duo trading songs coast to coast, before White-Glutz headed back to Canada permanently and the band turned official. Now boasting a full four-piece lineup, No Joy is bringing their heavy, catchy weirdness to Toronto tonight, and Montreal on November 27.

What is the greatest music documentary of all time?

Def Leppard’s Hysteria.

What is the worst music documentary of all time?

Def Leppard’s Hysteria.

Has anyone ever followed you on tour or in the studio to document you? How did you feel, and what were the end results like? If not, do you dream of the day when someone cares that much?

Absolutely not, no one should ever care enough about our band to follow us to Chipotle every day on tour. Does the film crew bring craft services? If yes, then I dream of that day.

Do you think increased interest in the behind-the-scenes working of bands and records is worthwhile, or does it remove some of that patented rock and roll mystique?

Is it interesting to know that we try to nap all day and just watched all of season 3 of Ready or Not… does that ruin the mystique?

What music documentary has yet to be made that you’re dying to see?

Has anyone made a TLC documentary and/or Third Eye Blind and/or 311 and/or ICP? Someone should.
