In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Gorillaz lead singer Damon Albarn spoke about his feelings toward the popular tv show Glee and gave a warning to the show’s producers to never ask to cover one of his band’s songs.

“We wouldn’t let that happen,” he said. “And not that they’ve asked us because they haven’t, and now they definitely won’t.”

The Fox television musical series has just premiered its second season and apparently several musicians such as Paul McCartney are avid fans of the program which is about a high school glee club. Despite the show’s popularity, Albarn called it “a very poor substitute for the real thing.”

Last week the cast of Glee topped the Beatles for having the most appearances on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by a non-solo act, however Albarn was again quick to counter.

“Those songs won’t last like the Beatles by any stretch of their imagination,” he said. “They’ll be forgotten in a few years’ time.”

Gorillaz in the meantime are currently touring North America in support of their third record Plastic Beach. They have two more scheduled Canadian dates in Toronto this Thursday at the Air Canada Centre and in Vancouver at the Rogers Arena on November 3. [Billboard]
