Download of the Week: Owen Pallett's "A Man with No Ankles"

He may not have won the Polaris Prize for a second time this year, but Owen Pallett continues to defy the music odds and sparkle on past us like it’s no big deal, this time with his new EP, A Swedish Love Story, which was released September 28. The first single, “A Man with No Ankles” has been out for a while but nonetheless is a special download.

“A Man with No Ankles” flutters with Pallett’s violin, but it’s also remarkably strong with the addition of more instruments such as a drum machine and his soft but confident voice. It sounds really familiar, but there’s enough difference in the framework that makes this song and undoubtedly the rest of the EP a keeper in the Pallett collection. Plus, it’s part of an EP that is in tribute to a Swedish film that Pallett loves, En Karlekshistoria.
