Last week Sufjan Stevens released details of a 8-song EP called All Delighted People that’s currently available for download. Today details have emerged of the singer/songwriter’s forthcoming full-length studio album The Age of Adz (pronounced Odds, apparently), that’s set to come out on CD/MP3 on October 12 with a double LP to be released on November 9.

This will be Stevens’ first song-based album since 2005’s Illinois and according to Asthmatic Kitty Records, who are putting it out, it sounds nothing like the recently released EP. “It shows an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments.”

The title of the album refers loosely to the apocalyptic paintings of artist Royal Robertson, whose work is featured on the cover shown above.
