Reuniting for a couple shows this summer, including Lollapalooza this upcoming weekend, Soundgarden have announced the release date for a new retrospective album called Telephantasm. According to Soundgardenworld, the album will drop on September 28 to coincide with the release of the next Guitar Hero video game, Guitar Hero 6. Copies of the album will be included with any purchase of the video game during the first week.

Songs appearing on Telephantasm will span the band’s entire catalog and the track “Black Rain,” an unreleased song from the Badmotorfinger sessions, will be added as well. The band’s first ever DVD is also set to come out with never-before-seen videos. For those not hip with Ps3 or Xbox, the album will be appearing on vinyl.

Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 with some members citing too much conflict with the music business as one of their reasons for splitting. A greatest hits album entitled A-Sides was released later that year in what would be their final album. Early this year amidst a swirl of rumors the band announced they would be one of the headliners for this year’s Lollapalooza Festival. They played their first show since 1997 this past April in their hometown of Seattle. Aside from the gig this weekend the band have one other show at the Vic Theatre in Chicago on this August 5.
