The Cure’s founding drummer Lol Tolhurst has asked to reunite with his former band and get the original lineup together for a tour next year to perform a live version of their 1981 album Faith. Tolhurst was fired from the band in the late ’80s because of his abuse with alochol and inability to perform on the keyboards. He was replaced by Roger O’Donnell from The Psychedelic Furs.

In an interview with Los Angeles radio station KXLU, Tolhurst suggested the band embark a the world tour for the celebration of the album’s 30th anniversary. Apparently the drummer/keyboardist has been in touch with singer Robert Smith, however a decision has yet to be made.

The fact that the two members are talking is great news for fans of the band. Back in the ’90s Tolhurts sued Smith for royalties and demanded shared ownership of the band’s name. In the early 2000’s the pair resumed talking ahead of the release of Levinhursts’, a band Tolhurst currently plays in, debut album. [The Guardian]
