Chromeo have hit their stride with the groovy jam, “Don’t Turn the Lights On.” The song, off their new album, Business Causal, is available for you to download from now until September 12.
The Montreal/New York duo of Dave1 and P-Thugg are cool and collected, as they should be in the dark. Suggesting seeing someone while the lights are off would be a lot different if they were yelling or singing frantically. They swim through the blackness with a synth that could be neon lights and a guitar that’s a flickering light bulb. The song is pretty minimal, but that means there’s nothing in the way, keeping you from enjoying it. The decision is up to you if you find it charming (rather than creepy), but you might have a hard time being scared once you realize you’re dancing.
