There’s nothing quite like passing along a great mixtape.  Since 2006, Toronto blogger (and AUX Track Of The Week writer) Chris Budd of Indie Music Filter has been curating these compilations, volumes 1 through 6, as what he’d call the coles notes of his music blog.  We’re now pleased to present his newest in Indie Music Filter Volume 7.  Feel free to stream this 14 song compilation, read a little about the artists involved, or download the whole mix.

And if you feel so inclined, pass it along.

‘Waiting On You’ by Sun Airway.  Catchy bliss-pop to start off the mix.  From the forthcoming full-length Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, here’s a relatively new band from the blogs, a project by Philadelphia’s Jon Barthmus.  Something about the direction he takes in the chorus always gets me. myspace | homepage
Wristwatch’ by Hungry Kids Of Hungary. More and more great bands seem to be coming from down under.  This Brisbane four-piece has already conquered Australia and the tv/film synch world, expect them to be showing up on more radars in North America and Europe.  ‘Wristwatch’ only plays for just under two minutes, but it packs a punch. myspace | itunes
‘Love More’ by Sharon Van Etten.  This song was recorded for non-profits Weathervane Music and XPN for their “Shaking Through” project.  A sparse and swelling waltz-time number with complementary vocal melodies.  Haunting. myspace | itunes | label
‘Boy’ by Ra Ra Riot.  The newest addition to the mix.  The first single off the band’s highly anticipated album ‘The Orchard’, no one does bittersweet orchestral indie pop like this band.  Whats grabs me about ‘Boy’ is that frenetic bassline.  myspace | itunes | label
‘Algebra’ by Airship. Anthemic melodies, synth-sounding guitar riffs and thumping drums suit this song perfectly.  Manchester’s Airship should get noticed.  myspace | itunes | label
‘Weapons For War’ by A Lull.  For listeners wanting something a little more experimental (a la Animal Collective or Yeasayer), try this one on.  ‘Pounding, layered percussion and warm vocalizing’ by this Chicago based sextet. myspace | itunes | homepage
‘Invisible Republic’ by Young Galaxy.  From this Montreal bands’ sophomore release, this song has founding duo Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless’ transforming the mundane into the fantastic, the dreamy into the epic.  myspace | itunes | label
‘Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)’ by Tokyo Police Club.  I’d be surprised if you didn’t get this chorus stuck in your head. This song has a great video which you can download (with remixes by DOM and RAC) from their homepage in exchange for a donation to ASPCA.  homepage | itunes | label
‘Kids On The Run’ by The Tallest Man On Earth.  From one of my favorite albums of the year (The Wild Hunt) comes a track where Swede Kristian Matsson trades in his guitar/banjo for a piano.  A beautiful ballad acknowledging past mistakes proves that some of the greatest songs are deep in the record. myspace | itunes | label
‘White City’ by Bishop Morocco.  Reuniting after 15 years playing separately (Jake Fairley a techno producer in Berlin and James Sayce in The Deadly Snakes and Tangiers), Bishop Morocco have put together quite an interesting a album for fans of new incarnations synth-pop and new-wave. myspace | itunes | label
‘Restoration’ by The Acorn. So much respect for this band.  Since exploding with 2007’s ‘Glory Hope Mountain’, the band have followed up well with ‘No Ghost’; a record which I can’t put down.  This track culminates in a perfect swell of driving drumbeats and sweet harmonies. myspace | itunes | label
‘Hey Big Bang’ by Superhumanoids.  LA based Superhumanoids were a band I knew nothing about 2 weeks ago.  Somehow, their music hooked me and ‘Hey Big Bang’ and (its soothing vocals among staccato beats and guitar chugs) found its perfect spot on this mix. myspace | itunes | homepage
‘Lungs Quicken’ by Lanterns On The Lake. Their second time on an Indie Music Filter Volume, this lush and atmospheric song called ‘Lungs Quicken’ is a soundtrack to your next daydream. myspace | itunes | homepage
‘Windowsill 1’ by Heartbeat Hotel.  Some local talent on here.  Toronto four-some Heartbeat Hotel bring psych-pop in this track that builds to a nicely placed horn-line. myspace | homepage
