What We See Is What You Get: Athlete

Athlete’s newest album “Black Swan” is a post card of a period of time for the band; a marking point to check-in and archive where the band has been and possibly consider where they’re going. Without a record label Athlete went out on a limb not even sure how the next month’s bills would be paid but nonetheless, they pressured on. Slugging it out on tour with their families at home; they probably could have cashed it in if they wanted to – pack it in and find a way to take a steady paycheck. The record may be more optimistic as a whole but an album can never mirror an entire band completely. It’s hard to package a band and their lives and experiences neatly into a collection of songs. On the other hand, doing vocal tracks on producer Tom Rothrock’s L.A rooftop isn’t bad either.
