Stuart Cable, the former Stereophonics drummer and most recently host of a rock show on BBC Radio Wales, has been found dead at his home in south Wales. He was 40. Emergency services were present early this morning and Police say they are not speculating on the cause of his death. A post mortem examination will be carried out this week.

Sources claim Cable had been drinking at a pub yesterday, where his car was left overnight and had some friends over to his house later that evening. Sources also say a number of bottles of alcohol were removed from the house by investigators.

Two days prior to his death Cable’s former band Stereophonics played a gig at Cardiff City Stadium in Wales, where the band formed back in 1992. Cable, along with school friends Richard and Kelly Jones were the original members and within five years they had achieved stardom supporting other bands such as the Rolling Stones and U2.

Cable was given the ‘heave-ho’ in 2003, but later formed another band called Killing For Company. Their upcoming album comes out next Saturday, where the band was to play at the Download Festival in Donington Park. A short message on the band’s official website says, “You will be missed.”

Band manager John Brand said, “He will be remembered for his big heart and booming voice, his bonhomie and his compassion for those less fortunate than himself.

I will always remember him as a loyal friend. Someone I shared many of the best and often the funniest times in my life.” [BBC]
