Early ’90s indie rock heavyweights Pavement have been on a worldwide reunion tour all this year and are nearing the home stretch. Their last album, Terror Twilight was released over a decade ago and the question has been looming concerning plans to release new material once the tour is up.

In an interview with AUX, Pavement member Bob Nastanovich explained what has been discussed so far and has settled the buzz surrounding any potential future work within the band.

“We haven’t even considered any new material at all,” Nastanovich said. “If we would it would sort of be near the end…we’re mostly just trying to make our songs work well in an environment larger than what we’re used to so that’s our biggest challenge.

Basically what we’re trying to play in the two hour set is Pavement songs, Pavement fans want to hear and make it a credible sexy night of entertainment.”

So while it seems a sixth album doesn’t look like it will happen the band is still optimistic about continuing to play shows after this tour for fans who haven’t seen them perform yet. “I would like to think there’s a possibility Pavement might play the occasional one off,” he added. “We’ve never been to South America so there’s been some discussion of playing down there.”

Currently the band is overseas for a few gigs in Europe but will head back to North America at the end of next month to conclude the tour. The are scheduled to play at Osheaga in Montreal and in Vancouver on September 7.
