As part of their “Three Artists One Song” campaign featuring Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino, Kid Cudi and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglig, Converse have created little short films about each of their selections. A video featuring Best Coast on their tour of Europe has already been put out and now a new video with Kid Cudi has been released.

In the video were are taken back to the rapper’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and see what appears to be the house he grew up in, or at least the place where he penned his first rhyme. The scene changes between shots of Cudi performing live as well as drive-by glimpses of Cleveland to make the video seem real in a 8 Mile sort of way. During the video he is of course standing in the comfort of brand new Chuck Taylor All Star kicks that probably still have that shoe box smell.

At this point it’s no secret this is a quick buck for artist and company, who are owned by Nike by the way, alike. Even during some concert footage of the rapper the camera zooms in on his shoes. It’s as if they care less to be conspicuous about it and are screaming, “attention suckers, we are using this cool new artist who makes decent tunes to sell shoes.” Do chuck’s really need marketing? The shoe has been around since the ’50s and continue to sell today. We can’t necessarily blame the artist because everyone has lots of expensive bills to pay and to not have to worry about money is a luxury some folks will just never have the chance to enjoy. Be sure to pay close attention to the rapper’s words at the end, priceless.
