Amelia Curran, Malajube, K-OS and more set to play for the Queen on Canada Day

This upcoming Canada Day, east coast singer/songwriter Amelia Curran will be performing at a garden party at Rideau Hall in Ottawa for the various dignitaries in attendance, including the Queen of England. The St. John’s, Newfoundland born musician and former street busker recently won a Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Album of the Year: Solo with her latest album Hunter, Hunter. It also received four nominations at the 2010 East Coast Music Awards. Her sound has been described as “a bit like Leonard Cohen being channeled in a dusty saloon by Patsy Cline.”

After the performance at Rideau Hall, Curran will join K-OS, Malajube and Digawolf at the CBC singer/songwriter circle at Major’s Hill Park for the afternoon. And later in the evening she’ll be giving a solo performance on the Canada Day stage.

Recently Curran played alongside Royal Wood and Andy Maze at the Outlaws and Gunslingers Showcase for NXNE. Her first headlining gig will take place in Toronto on July 7 at Hugh’s Room. It will be followed by some dates in Eastern Canada and then shows down south. She’ll also head overseas in the Fall for a tour of the UK and Ireland, playing some shows with Justin Rutledge.
