Band of Skulls talk quiet but play loud and in today’s 80’s infused synth pop climate, they may be one of the few new bands that can still fully improvise on stage. The leather and sunglasses trio from Southhampton, England is a “democracy with lots of arguing” as it was so concisely put by frontman Russell Marsden – but it’s still hard to tell what they’re arguing about. The blues heavy, off-the-on-beat beat, guy-girl vocals approach of the band is a fresh take on traditional rock’n’roll. Band of Skulls may not wander too far outside the rock/blues formula but when you write good songs like Fires, I Know What I Am or Honest, that’s definitely a good thing. Watch our exclusive interview above, and a separate video featuring just their performance of Honest below.
