Fronted by former opera student Nika Roza Danilova, Zola Jesus remains relatively shrouded in mystery, primarily showcasing stirring and powerful vocals amidst a dramatic European gothic backdrop. However, a native of Wisconsin, Danilova rejects the confines of stereotyping and genre convention, and instead embraces the worlds of music and performance art, commanding attention with her haunting sound and unforgettable aesthetic.

Having just released her debut EP, Stridulum earlier this year to the cheers of fans and critics everywhere, her first single, Night, landed atop Pitchfork’s Best New Music, and throughout 2010, she’s graced the pages of countless publications including The New Yorker, Guardian and Paste. A contrast to contrived acts who long for media attention and controversy, Zola Jesus remains honest, defined solely by her earnestness and talent.
